For February’s Mighty Breaks, SEISMIC is going head to head against our arch rivals, The Space Cowboys. When these two crews get together, mayhem happens. As a special treat, PLAZA de FUNK (West Records, FAT! UK) will be coming over from the UK to headline the event for his US debut. Check out his bio and recent tracks on his MySpace account. PLAZA de FUNK has been putting floor stompers for the past few years. He has an amazing ability to get a dance floor rockin’ and he his ready to bring his sound to San Francisco.

A Fingerlickin’ Thang with KRAFY KUTS

Having completed an enormous sell out tour of Australia, New Zealand and China the hardest working man in breakbeat is coming to San Francisco. Krafty Kuts is one of the world’s most sought after and respected DJ/producers in dance music: he recently picked up the trophy for Best DJ at the Breakspoll 2005 awards for the second year running. He has just released his debut solo artist album Freakshow on Against The Grain, which includes the monster floor stomper, Bass Phenomenon (Listen).

It also features collaborations with a host of hot talent including Dynamite MC, Tim Deluxe, Ashley Slater, Dr Luke, Theo, Bespoke, Ed Solo and Chris Sargent. In typical Krafty Kuts style the music touches on hip hop and breaks with all the juicy bits in between. From fun loving funk to outrageous bassline breaks Krafty Kuts years of experience has served him well; it really is a rocking album!

Friday December 1st: Mighty Breaks presents Chew The Fat!
with FRIENDLY

On December 1st, Friendly is coming back to SF to rock the city with his characteristic sound of Funky Breaks and Electro House. It has been two years since this SEISMIC favorite has been through town and he has a new arsenal of tracks to drop on our eager ears.

You’ll know Friendly–he’s the Australian chap who’s been known for smashing up the breaks scene at clubs like Chew The Fat! And beyond. His mission statement is simply “dirty” and he mixes it up between breaks, electro house, bootlegs and oddities to create a bass heavy sweat fest.

A resident at Chew The Fat!, Friendly has had a string of well received releases that have got everyone from The Plumps, Zane Lowe, Freq Nasty and Annie Mac jumping on board to give him support. 2006 has seen him remix the massive Justice Vs Simian monster We are Your Friends under his ‘Milke‘ guise touring China and signing to Electro House’s hottest label iO Music

This latest outing on iO Music sees Friendly dropping some electro house gems. “It’s got all the same energy and structure and sounds as other Friendly tracks, just the kick drum is in a different position. And as my mum always said, The kick drum does not maketh the genre, and she was right.”

“There’s some really exciting stuff going on in house at the moment, so I’ve been playing a bit more of it, and these tracks reflect that”

San Franciso’s best Breaks monthly is proud to host UK breaks label CHEW THE FAT! celebrating their 9th birthday. For Halloween, we’re bringing FAT! agency’s BLIM (TCR/Track) back to San Francisco for his first performance in 5 years.

Gervase Cooke AKA BLIM, has been quietly traversing musical styles and conventions for nearly seven years. Beginning his musical life from an essentially classical orchestral base of piano and violin, he has built on this to form the break led music he now produces on his own new label TRACK.

BLIM will be supported by local phat heroes: Murphstar (SEISMIC), The Geometrist (Space Cowboys LA), Shissla (House of Lotus), Aaron Pope (The Deep End), Samira (SEISMIC/SisterSF) & Tamo (Angels of bAss)

This is a Halloween party so be sure to come in costume!

We are getting geared up for this weekend. With sunny weather in the forecast and an onslaught of amazing DJ talent coming to town, the Love Fest weekend should be off the hook. The Parade will follow the same route as last year, starting at 2nd St., heading west down Market Street and ending up in the Civic Center. You can see the map of where the floats will park in the Civic Center here.

We wanted to make sure you all know about a big event that is coming to San Francisco on Saturday night. The good folks from Mighty Breaks have joined forces with Finger Lickin’ Records, the biggest breaks label in the world, to create a new world class series of events in San Francisco. A Finger Lickin’ Thang! will regularly showcase artists from the all-star line up of Finger Lickin’ DJs such as PLUMP DJs, SOUL OF MAN, A SKILLZ, DRUM ATTIC TWINS, SLYDE, STEREO 8 and KRAFTY KUTS, as they play along side San Francisco’s local DJ talent.

This epic new bi-monthly residency kicks off on Saturday, June 29th at Mighty (119 Utah Street) with Breaks Legends and label founders Soul of Man. The night will also include local DJs; Murphstar (SEISMIC), Brad Robinson (Space Cowboys), Party Ben (Live 105/Bootie), Bali (www.djbali.com), Benchun (False Profit) and Jive (FiX).

About Soul of Man

The beginnings of the SEISMIC & Finger Lickin’ friendship started years back at a then unknown club called Mighty. Soul of Man showed up for our Mission 04 NYE gig that would last a few days and lucky for us the love of the music has kept the connection burning strong.

Starting out with their successful debut mix album Breakthru Vol. 1 in 1998, they founded the Finger Lickin’ label and a whole civilization of like-minded Finger Lickin’ producers, DJs, and supporters joined forces. They went on to mix and release the compilations Finger Lickin’ Thang 1, Thang 2 and Thang 3 as well as the Distinctive Records dubious compilations of Y4K, all showcasing their minty fresh mixing and featuring the best of the label’s releases as well as remixes of the original tracks by some of break beat’s finest.

Headlining the event is International Breaks Superstar, The Rogue Element (Bio). Ben Medcalf AKA The Rogue Element has been tearing up the Breaks Charts this past year. He has been know to turn dance floors into flurried frenzies with his unique style of stabby synths, driving bass lines and distorted keyboards. His tracks have been getting huge support from the likes of the Crystal Method, Soul of Man, Freq Nasty, Adam Freeland, Stanton Warriors, Rennie Pilgrim and DJ Hyper to name a few.

The Rogue Element has just secured his spot as one of the greats in Breakbeat history by winning the award for “Best Break Through Producer” at Breakspoll last month. Friday will be his US debut so come on out and see/hear what all the excitement is about!
